All Political Science students have the opportunity to benefit from an initiative of the Department of Political Science, though not all will choose to do so. The department does not actively encourage its undergraduates to specialize in one particular area of the field, but many naturally have such an inclination. To aid students in developing specialized multi-disciplinary curricula to meet their interests, the department has developed and received approval for six certificate programs. Completion of a certificate program results in special designation on the student’s transcript upon graduation. In the spring of 2003 the department opened its first such certificate program, in European Union Politics. The certificate programs are open to all majors. Since 2005, the department has developed and gained university approval for five additional certificate programs: Comparative Study of National Politics; International Relations; Law, Politics, and Society; Foundations of Political Theory; Race, Ethnicity, and Gender Politics. |
