American Politics

Welcome to the home page of the American Politics Program at Texas A&M University.

The over-arching goal of the American Politics program is to foster and encourage scholarly interaction between faculty and graduate students -- in our department, and around the country -- who share an interest in the study of American politics.

We sponsor an annual mini-conference at Texas A&M, bringing in scholars from around the country to present papers on a topic of broad interest to the American politics community.  In the recent past, we have hosted conferences on Issue Framing in Public Opinion, as well as Judicial Review and the Supreme Court. This year’s conference will be held on Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22. The theme is "New Directions in Research on Congressional Elections".

Six scholars will be presenting papers:

The conference program is here.

We also sponsor a regular brown-bag seminar series -- see the Spring 2008 schedule here -- where faculty and graduate students from our department, as well as from around the country, present their works in progress. The seminar normally takes place on the first and third Fridays of every month, from 12 to 1 PM, in the Allen Building, room 2115. Everyone is invited to attend and bring a lunch with them.
