Faculty


The Department of Political Science is searching for four tenure-track or tenured faculty members to begin Fall 2008. For all positions, applicants at the level of associate professor or above should send a letter of interest and a curriculum vita. Applicants below the level of associate professor should send a letter of interest (outlining the research agenda), three letters of reference, a curriculum vitae, graduate school transcripts, any available teaching evaluations, and a writing sample. We are especially interested in candidates who would increase the Department's gender, racial and ethnic diversity. Comparative Politics/Chinese Domestic Politics

The Department invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track position in Chinese Domestic Politics. We seek applicants who employ original survey research in the study of domestic politics in the PRC. The rank of this appointment is open, though preference will be given to more senior candidates. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct research on domestic politics in China, and is also expected to play a role in the further development of The China Archive at Texas A&M University (http://chinaarchive.tamu.edu) and The China Survey, a multi-disciplinary national survey of China. Applicants should have personal experience in conducting a mass survey in the PRC. The starting date for the position is Spring or Fall 2008. Review of applications begins on September 15 and will continue until the position is filled.

International Relations

The Department invites applications and nominations for a position in the field of International Relations at the rank of associate or full professor. In exceptional circumstances, we may also consider an advanced assistant professor. The Department is seeking an individual with an active research agenda and published scholarly record that makes significant contributions to one or more areas within this field. The Department presently has eight active scholars in this area, five of whom were hired in a recent initiative to expand this subfield significantly. The fields of specialization for this position are open, but we are most interested in scholars who combine strong theoretical interests with sophisticated approaches to theory development and testing. Review of applications will open on October 1 and will continue until the position is filled.

Race and Ethnic Politics

The Department invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in race and ethnic politics. Appointment at another rank may be possible depending on budgetary contingencies and qualifications of the candidate. The position continues an on-going initiative bolstering the Department's existing strengths in race and politics. The Department seeks an individual with strong theoretical interests, methodological skills appropriate to the candidate's theoretical interests, and a substantive focus on race and ethnic politics. The position is open to candidates in all subfields of Political Science. The starting date for the position is Fall 2008; a completed Ph.D. is preferred. Review of applications begins on September 24 and will continue until the position is filled.


Political Institutions/Bureaucracy OR Public Policy

The Department is recruiting for one position in either Political Institutions/Bureaucracy or Public Policy. The Department, therefore, invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor with a specialization in bureaucracy or in public policy. Appointment at another rank may be possible depending on budgetary contingencies and qualifications of the candidate.

The Department is interested in candidates whose substantive focus is on questions involving bureaucracy alone or the interaction of bureaucracy with other political institutions. Within the policy field, we are interested in candidates who specialize in either comparative public policy or American public policy. The Department seeks an individual with strong theoretical interests, methodological skills appropriate to theoretical interests, We are interested both in scholars with formal skills and scholars with empirical skills. The starting date for the position is Fall 2008; a completed Ph.D. is preferred. Review of applications begins on October 1 and will continue until the position is filled.
