Former Students

Board

The Former Students' Advisory Board is a place where alumni can network with other former students and participate in various activities thus maintaining a strong relationship with the Department. The FSAB is dedicated to promoting excellence and we welcome your participation.

The FSAB was formed in 1998 and first year activities included hosting a 30th anniversary celebration for the department at which former President George Bush was speaker and Guest of Honor and creating a Founding Membership for advisory board members. In July 2001, the Executive Committee of the FSAB held a retreat where goals and action steps were set to further develop and expand the Board. Since then the FSAB has continued to meet twice a year in general meetings and offers their support for several other events held throughout the year in the Department.

One of the major events that the FSAB sponsors is Career Day held in the fall and spring semesters. Political Science Career Day is one opportunity for former student to come and share with undergraduates tips on how to conduct a job search and what careers are open to Political Science majors. Careers in government, fund raising, human resources, sales, law, public relations, and others are covered. In addition to Career Day, the FSAB posts jobs and internships that are currently available.

To support Career Day efforts the FSAB developed the Mentoring Program that puts successful former students in touch with current undergraduates wanting one-on-one attention and career advice.
