| Dr. Matthew Hoddie’s research considers the capacity of government institutions and policies to manage conflict within deeply-divided societies. In collaboration with Caroline Hartzell, his work examining the potential for power-sharing institutions to foster a lasting peace following civil war has appeared as a number of journal articles and as a book chapter. Their book on this topic, Crafting Peace: Power Sharing Institutions and the Negotiated Settlement of Civil Wars, is forthcoming in 2007. Hoddie’s research has also investigated the effect of ethnically-based preferential policies on identities and interethnic relations. His book on this subject was published under the title Ethnic Realignments: A Comparative Study of Government Influences on Identities. Hoddie teaches courses focusing on ethnic conflict and the politics of less-developed countries. |
